Uchenna R. Nwaneri, M.D., is the President of the medical staff at the University of Maryland Capital Region Health. Dr. Nwaneri, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS), is an academic with Board leadership experience in enabling high-quality and accessible healthcare systems. His background in academia includes a Clinical Assistant Professorship of Orthopedic Surgery at the School of Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore; Ross University Medical School in Antigua; and, Capital City University, Kano, Nigeria.
Dr. Nwaneri serves on the University Of Maryland Capital Region Health Board Of Directors, with oversight of collaboration with the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County Government, and the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine’s turn-key construction of the highly innovative and technologically advanced $600 million University of Maryland Capital Region Hospital in Largo, Maryland.
Dr. Nwaneri, through the University Of Maryland Capital Region Health Board Of Directors, is also engaged in the development of a $183 million outpatient ambulatory and wellness center in Laurel, Maryland; and on-going development of a $53 million state-of-the-art Cancer Center in Largo, Maryland.
In addition to corporate healthcare systems oversight, Dr. Nwaneri, who has been in active continuous private practice of Orthopedic Surgery since 1994, is also experienced in small business development. He conceived and developed The Spine and Joint Center, a multispecialty orthopedic practice with pain management, and physical therapy components in the state of Maryland.
Through his Board memberships in leading healthcare systems and small business development, Dr. Nwaneri has become an advocate for expanding international markets for American medical equipment and medical device manufacturers. He consulted with the Nigerian government on the construction of an ultramodern 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, including acquisition of multimillion dollar radiology equipment from General Electric, an American multinational. He was instrumental in rebuilding the dilapidated Amiri Maternity Clinic in Imo state, Nigeria. Dr. Nwaneri has also advised the Maryland’s Governor’s Office of Community Initiative’s Maryland Business Forum and the U.S. government’s Prosper Africa Initiative, on strategies to expand African markets for U.S. medical equipment and medical device manufacturers, and their enabling technologies.
